I've been so amazed lately at how powerful fiber is in our diet.
I've lost touch with that over the past kind of decade a bit.
And now I'm slowly getting back into that as I work on my health.
And it's amazing how much we need the fiber.
Yes, we need good protein.
We need a balance of good fats and good carbohydrates.
But the fiber is kind of like magic.
I was watching a video recently of a guy who measures the effect on blood sugar of various items.
And he ate a Snickers bar and he showed the rise in his blood sugar like a reasonable spike.
Not huge, but...
Still a spike.
And then he ate the same Snickers bar the following day with some egg whites, the protein, obviously.
So he's looking at a protein.
And that helped a little bit to bring down the spike.
Then the following day, he drank some olive oil, like a little shot glass of olive oil.
So amount of fat before the Snickers bar.
And that didn't help at all with his blood sugar spike.
Same spike.
And then lastly, he did, I think, half a cup of broccoli.
He ate the broccoli and then he ate the Snickers bar and it helped hugely, like halved the spike just about.
So that's so amazing to see how that fiber works and how I know it kind of builds this gel in your stomach and it slows down your stomach emptying and it helps the digestion to be slower.
It helps the spike from whatever carbohydrates you're eating to be less.
Plus it cleans out your insides.
So we have the soluble fiber and the insoluble.
Insoluble would be the brim in your intestines.
