Answering YOUR X-Men Questions (Q&A Special)

So SlickTricks64 asks, are you two going to read Claremont and Davis' Excalibur? Novadeff asks, when the time comes, will you also be covering other mutant titles like New Mutants, Dazzler, X-Factor, etc.? And WebheadCalvi asks, will you read New Mutants?

My answer is, specifically for Excalibur, I hope so, because everything that I've heard about it sounds right up my alley, and I really like the art style.

By everything that you've heard about it, do you mean me just frothing it non-stop?

Yeah, you said there were fairies in it.

There is, and there's a lot of that kind of stuff.

Excalibur actually is one of my favorite comics of all time.

Like when I was first getting into like actually buying comics, I went to the local comic book shop in Ringwood, which is the suburb over from where I grew up.

I went through the $1 back issue bin and Excalibur was what they had a whole bunch of the back issues in order for a dollar each.

And so that's what I used to sneak into class in high school was Excalibur comics.

So I have a real nostalgic soft spot for it.

Speaking in a more general sense about the other titles that have been mentioned here, we are going to have to because we're going to start hitting crossovers.

The New Mutants is going to launch as we approach the Brood Saga.

I've actually been sitting around and sending Shawnee screenshots in my notes app of, I want to cover these issues in this episode.

And once we hit the Brood Saga, we're going to have to start looking at New Mutants.

How we're going to do it, I'm still working out the specifics of that, but we wouldn't be getting the full X-Men experience if we were only reading Uncanny.

I think it makes the most sense to branch into those other teams and then we're going to be able to see the interplay of the teams during crossovers and also characters moving from one team to another as we get through decades and that sort of stuff.

Anything else you want to say on that one, Shawnee? Just that Beth is truly doing the Lord's work, organizing all this stuff, because when you try to navigate this stuff online, the resources are incredibly convoluted and difficult.

So I think Beth may even accidentally be authoring the official way to enjoy the X-Men for future people.

My absolute pet peeve is anyone out there who has made these reading guides on the internet and you are putting the stories in continuity order instead of release order.

I do not want to read a Wolverine miniseries from 2008 just because it takes place around the time of these issues if I'm going through in order.

That's me, but I want to enjoy these things as they were published without retcons because you would have seen, I guess, some of my opinions on the Dark Phoenix saga before.

to look at the Dark Phoenix saga as it was unfolding in comics at the time.

I'm not factoring any of the retcons that I know happen.

And Shawnee is oblivious to all those retcons.

And I want to keep it that way.
