Two kids, the same beautiful walk — one delighted in it, one complained the whole way. 🌤️ New episode by Phil Smouse on choosing to enjoy the path God has us on right now, instead of rushing toward…
There's a time for everything and a season for every activity under heaven.
Ecclesiastes 3.1 Two children went for a walk with their father.
It was a beautiful morning.
The sun was shining.
The birds were singing.
The air was cool and light.
Everywhere they turned, the whole earth was rejoicing in glorious worship to its heavenly father.
One child took delight in the amazing beauty all around her.
The other child tugged and pulled and whined and complained every step along the way.
Both children were surrounded by the same beauty, but only one child enjoyed the journey their father took them on that day.
As we walk the path our Father has placed before us, it can be easy to lose sight of where we are in our relentless pursuit of where we want to be.
It's true that where we are may be a million miles from where we want to be, and where we want to be may feel like a dream that will never come true.
But we must remember that where we are right now, right this minute, is the place where Jesus lives.
It's the place he longs to meet us, and it's the place he will meet us if we slow down, open our hearts, and thank him for this day.
This place, these people, these problems, and this crazy, confusing, impossible, unsolvable situation.
We simply need to slow down so you can get past the door and get into the room where he can fill us with his beauty.
Yes, there is beauty in this day, no matter how dark or concerning our situation may appear.
And that beauty can be found, but we must be willing to surrender our desire to be where we want to be and fully embrace the place where Jesus has placed us right now.
Think about it.
What would happen if a farmer decided to plant corn in the dead of winter? Or what if a man chose to laugh while everybody around him was weeping? What if he reopened a wound just as it was beginning to heal? These things are so obvious they hardly seem worthy of consideration.
But is it possible we do the exact same thing in a million little ways each and every day? heart of surrendering our lives fully is the willingness to let the Lord direct our steps and set the pace in every season.
We must be willing to surrender control completely and thank Him for everything, each and every step along the way.
There will always be challenges on the road the Lord places before us, but when we learn to trust Him completely, allow Him to direct our paths, and then learn to enjoy the ride, we'll find the clouds will part, and the light of God will once again begin to shine wherever we are and wherever we're going.
This truly is the path to joy, peace, and a life worthy of the sacrifice of our mighty Savior.
