Skyrim is a game of many locations. Bustling towns, quiet forests, The Elder Scrolls 5 has it all. And some of Skyrim's most iconic locations are its dungeons. Large structures, loaded with enemies…
Starting off, we have what is perhaps one of the most horrifying locations on this list.
Ulthdand.
A large, fulmar-infested Dwemer ruin, somewhat submerged in a glacier off of Skyrim's northern coast.
We may visit it during the quest Elder Knowledge, or at any other point in the game, really.
What makes this place so disturbing isn't necessarily the fact that it's overrun with horrifying, goblin-like, people-eating elves.
There's quite a few other places with the same problem.
But, it's the story of a group of people who arrived here just before you that should really send shivers down one's spine.
You see, apparently, just a few weeks prior to the events of The Elder Scrolls V, an Imperial by the name of Sola Trabatius, evidently unaware of the Falmer problem here, assembled a small team to excavate this strange ruin and search for Dwarven artifacts that he might be able to resell.
As we learned thanks to a handful of left-behind diaries, the team set up camp above the glacier they were digging through.
However, a few days into their expedition, a terrible blizzard forced them to abandon their above-ground camp, and they had to flee into the ruin, where they would be safer from the elements.
The storm would, unfortunately, never stop, effectively trapping them below ground indefinitely.
And this is where things began to get...
Weird.
It started off with strange noises and weird scratching sounds.
The team didn't really know what to think and figured they might just be getting sick.
They were already going hungry, having left most of their food behind.
Maybe they were just hallucinating.
They hoped.
But then, as the days went on, team members started to just go missing overnight.
The group would wake up a man short, and they even began to hear screaming coming from the walls.
It became apparent something was going horribly wrong.
This is how most of the diary entries we find end.
There's no more entries.
They just talk about how people are going missing, and then randomly cut off.
you can assume what happened.
