Hello and welcome to another episode of the Energy Unwrapped podcast.

Today's guest is Nathan Gamblin.

Before we get into the chat, I need to apologise for the video quality.

We had a few technical problems getting my usual podcast software working.

But Nathan and I were so keen to get the episode recorded that in the end we just gave up fighting with it and ended up using Zoom instead.

So the audio should be fine, but the video isn't quite as good as I'd normally like.

Hopefully you can forgive us because it turned into a really interesting conversation.

We go right back through the history of heating in Britain, from the days before central heating, through town gas, natural gas, oil heating, combi boilers and some of the problems we've inherited along the way.

And of course, we talk about why heat pumps really aren't new.

We've got Graham Haldane experimenting with heat pumps in the 1920s, John Sumner taking heat from the River Wensum in Norwich in the 40s, and Nathan's own family working across combustion, oil heating, refrigeration, and some very early commercial heat pump systems.

And it wouldn't be a conversation with Nathan without us both going off on a few rants.
