Want It. Hate It. Do It Anyway.

I'm going to go through three different things.

One is going to be wanting versus liking.

Another one is going to be preferences versus priorities.

And the last one is all about the mislabeling versus misalignment.

And when you understand these, it makes everything that you're not following through on that you know is really important so much easier.

So let's go.

This is the most wonderful research because it all makes sense when you hear the discoveries in this research.

Back in the 80s, There was someone named Kent Barrage.

Kent Barrage.

And another neuroscientist with Kent was Terry Robinson.

And they were at the University of Michigan.

And what happened is that they were studying the phenomenon of wanting and liking.

Now, here's the thing.

Wanting is about your future.

Liking is about your now.

And there's a very different thing here.

If you like something right now, then you feel good right now.

It's a little bit hedonistic.

It's the sensation.

It's the comfort.

It's the enjoyment.

Enjoyment in the actual process.

However, if you want something, it's usually something in the future, a desire, something you don't have yet, even if it's a long ways out.

So your brain handles these two things, wanting something that you don't have or wanting something that matters to you, very differently than liking something.
