When I first joined, there
was obviously no antiretroviral treatment.
And mostly what the foundation did was doing up hospital wards for AIDS patients and providing a little sympathy to make life a little less hideous and a little less painful than it was for so many people.
And if you spin forward two and a half decades...
We are now providing, we've put 5 million people on life-saving treatment.
Just last year, we provided services, HIV testing and treatment services to 645,000 people.
We now have treatment that is fast.
like a miracle.
It means that people who get it and can stay on it can live a normal life.
We have fantastic, quick, rapid HIV testing that's as easy, if not easier, than a COVID test.
And we have a fantastic new spectrum of prevention medication, PrEP, which is going to be available not just in pill form that you take once a day, but injectable form that you take every couple of months or even twice a year and ultimately once a year.
So we're getting, it's not a vaccine, but it's about as close as we can get.
