It's been a concerted campaign by Don Brash and Nick Mowbray to get national voters to split their vote, to engineer an overhang, a move John Key has said would be the opposite of clever.

And so in the weekend Herald, Don Brash went to press again to say why it's a good idea.

The upshot being that National strengthened the electorates could mean a loss of list seats, which affects several senior ministers, notably Nicola Willis.

Brash believes it's the only way for National to save a centre-right coalition, but there is another way.

The other disconnect is that many on the right, in fact many in New Zealand, already believe New Zealand has too many MPs, and here's Mr.

If there was an overhang, it could get as high as 124 MPs, and we're paying for these people.

And the other irony is that many on the right can't stand it when Helen Clark bucks in with her tuppence.

And yet here is a former leader of National and Act doing exactly the same at the age of 85.
