Matthew SharpeGuestAlright guys, before we get into today's episode, I want to actually explain why I wanted to do this episode, because it's not just a topic I picked out of thin air.
Not just in the cold plunge wake up at 4am kind of way, more just it found me at a point where I really, really needed it.
I spent a good chunk of my life looking for validation outside myself, what people thought of me, whether I was liked or whether things were going the way I thought they were supposed to.
And when that stuff didn't pan out, relationships, decisions, works, whatever it was really, I didn't have the tools to deal with it.
This guy was literally running an empire, dealing with plagues, people trying to overthrow him, and at that period he's writing all these notes to himself about how to stay grounded.
What can I actually control here? And what can't I? And most importantly, how do I want to show up regardless of what happens to me? I built this whole list off the back of it that I still run through most days.
And I've spoken about bits and pieces on the pod before, but I've never actually sat down with someone who properly studies this stuff and gone deep on where it actually comes from, what we get wrong about it, and how to use it properly instead of just the Instagram quote version of it.
He spent years researching this, and I've been genuinely pumped to have this conversation for a long time, so let's get into it.
