A few years ago, if someone told you that water was no longer adequate for hydration, you probably would have laughed.
It got our species through the Ice Age, droughts, migrations, wars, and the invention of disco.
Somehow, though, in the last decade, we have become convinced that unless our water contains Himalayan salt, trace minerals, electrolytes, and a flavor profile that sounds like a tropical fruit cocktail, we are not doing hydration correctly.
Some are sold by athletes, some are sold by influencers, and some are sold by what I call the shirtless salesmen of supplements and scams.
a group whose confidence is inversely proportional to the quality of evidence and whose checkout lane is making them millionaires.
And the implication is that modern life has somehow created a hydration crisis that can only be solved by purchasing a product for a dollar a serving.
