The Origins and Perspective of Social Work4:34 – 7:24

J

Julio C. CabaHost

4:34

It's important.

J

Julio C. CabaHost

4:35

And you guys look at it like everything when it comes to life.

J

Julio C. CabaHost

4:38

So who uses it more? I grew up with social workers all the time because of poverty.

J

Julio C. CabaHost

4:45

Is that where it stems? So where does social work stem from? I

A

Aixa OrtizGuest

4:50

mean, back

H

HostHost

4:53

in the 80s.

H

HostHost

4:56

1972.

A

Aixa OrtizGuest

4:58

Believe it or not, social work.

A

Aixa OrtizGuest

5:00

This actually I gave a class at UCF some time ago.

A

Aixa OrtizGuest

5:04

And yeah, and it was it was about

H

HostHost

5:06

like part of it was about the origins of social work.

A

Aixa OrtizGuest

5:09

And it really started with, believe it or not, animal rights.

A

Aixa OrtizGuest

5:14

So animal rights came before children's rights.

J

Julio C. CabaHost

5:18

Wait, what?

H

HostHost

5:19

Wait a minute.

H

HostHost

5:20

H

HostHost

5:28

What do you mean?

A

Aixa OrtizGuest

5:31

People weren't really concerned about animal rights, like animals just like being

H

HostHost

5:34

out in the

A

Aixa OrtizGuest

5:35

street and like not being cared for and things like that.

A

Aixa OrtizGuest

5:37

And so there were laws passed regarding animal rights before there were laws passed about children's rights, like children, labor rights and all that.
