Servant Leadership: Purpose Over Position. Stan Lewis Interview

So a lot of people that I've spoken to that retire, sometimes they go through this.

thing of not knowing not like work for us as humans you know it's who we are right we create these passions around what we do and our purpose around what we do and then we retire and and i've met a lot of folks that are like having a struggle with that but you were able to transition is there anything you can tell someone that's going through that phase right now

Well, you got to ask yourself, what is it that you want to do? You have all this experience.

And where do you want to apply that experience? Maybe you want to.

Just do a little bit of work.

Maybe you want to open up your own business like I did.

Maybe you want to travel.

Just whatever it is, think into it and don't hold yourself back by doubts.

Well, I don't know if I'm going to be able to do this.

Well, but I don't know if I'm going to be able to travel.

And so you have to sit down and try to figure out where it is that you want to go.

and where your passion is, and then move into that area.

And don't let doubts that you have or the doubts of other people hold you back.

Yeah, I like that.

Because it's not over, right? Because you're retired.

It is so

much

more.

Oh, why set up on a porch like an old hound dog, okay? Because it's just going to make you get really, really old really, really fast.

You have gifts.

Just because you're retired don't mean that your gift's retired.

Your gifts can still be present to help other people and apply your experience to help others.

I find that by helping others, I get a lot of pleasure out of that.

And so it's something I want to continue to do.

I love it.
