Have we lived before? Serge Ramelli is certain of it, and he says it changed the entire course of his life.
In this episode of the Don't Do Nothing Podcast, French photographer Serge Ramelli opens up about growing up in Scientology and how it shaped everything he's become. His mom discovered Scientology in Paris in 1977 after a shy, standoffish neighbor suddenly transformed into a warm, outgoing person, so his mom literally knocked on her door and asked what she had done. When Serge was seven, his mother told him he was a spiritual being who had lived before, and he says it instantly rang true. At 11, he wandered into a lecture on past lives, the speaker asked the room to recall something from 300 years ago, and something came up. A Dianetics session the next day, he says, brought it back with full emotion and detail. Years later he even researched one past-life incident and says he found that the person had existed and died exactly as he'd remembered.
As a young man, Serge was weighed down by deep self-doubt and sadness that held him back from the creative life he'd always wanted. His mom gave him over 400 hours of Dianetics auditing, and he went clear at 25. That, he says, is where the confidence came from. He was a broke sales VP living paycheck to paycheck when he finally decided to walk away and become an artist, funded the leap by pitching a Paris hotel owner ("I have a dream, I want to be an artist"), survived toxic business partners, and rebuilt through a scrappy YouTube channel that took off.
Today Serge is the official photographer of the city of Las Vegas, has work in 120 galleries worldwide through Yellow Korner, has published eight coffee-table books, and is widely considered the number one photography coach on the internet. He credits the whole journey to Scientology. He now builds his whole production company around past-life stories, including his song "You're Not Your Body."
