So you describe yourself as a business person, not a technology person, even though you do have a technical background.

But you've also led a lot of technical teams, data engineers, data scientists, statisticians, economists.

What does that mean in practice to lead a data and analytics organization with a business first mindset?

Well, you know, data is one of these things where you can go down various rabbit holes and find insights, if you will, or interesting tidbits.

And the way to be successful in the world of data and analytics, from my experience, is to really, as you said, take a business focused lens and think about what business problem are you actually trying to solve? Many technical people left to their own devices will work on the most technically interesting problem, but actually not the most impactful problem.

And you really need to think about why you're there, right? Are you adding value to the company? And if you're not, well, they don't need you, right? And so the data analysis is one of these things where companies can exist without you.

They will continue to make decisions that will continue to do things, run marketing campaigns, whatever, design the supply chain.

And that business focused mindset is needed to prioritize what matters versus what doesn't.
