In this episode, we're digging into one of the most important safety initiatives held in our industry, the Trench Safety Standdown, or TSSD.
Every year, trench collapses and excavation incidents claim lives and cause devastating injuries across utility, construction, and related fields.
These tragedies are always preventable with the right knowledge, equipment, and culture of safety.
What began as a NUCA-led effort quickly gained momentum, with Federal OSHA becoming a key partner just a year later.
Now in its 10th year, TSSD has grown into a nationwide week of focused safety awareness that reaches thousands of industry employees at job sites, training events, and company gatherings.
During this period, employers across the country are encouraged to pause normal operations to hold for their employees toolbox talks, safety demonstrations, training sessions, or discussions centered on trenching and excavation hazards.
In this episode, I'm joined by Ed Dineal, NUCA's Vice President of Safety and Education.
