Tom of London got sober in a scene built around wet spaces, and built a whole philosophy out of it. He talks about what it actually takes to keep a community alive rather than just take from it: the…
But I think it makes a lot of sense really because we all work together.
No matter if you even are organizing or whatever, if you don't feel like you're doing something, you're still a part of that machine to help it keep going.
It keeps...
It keeps people who are organizing, knowing that people are interested, that people will give feedback, people comment.
Do you mean it all helps the machine develop? And it generally becomes bigger.
And I think sometimes, especially in this sort of environment that we have at the moment, globally, politically, sometimes it feels like we're not working together we're working against each other and everyone's trying to climb to the top or try to be bigger than someone else or you know i mean that sort of anti anti working together and actually we can only shine when everyone works together because that shows off how big and how supportive we all are of each other
Yeah.
And, you know, the two key areas that I'm kind of thinking back to after you've really coherently said that is that one, it's just so unfortunate that the leaders of the countries that we live in are unfortunately spiraling, you know, in a direction that isn't really about hope, but it's more about hope.
hatred and how hatred causes anxiety it causes division and it causes us to actually not work together and to your point to almost fill our boots so high to the point that we're not looking after other people we're only really caring about ourselves and unfortunately I mean I'll be honest I remember when I first started on the scene and I wanted to make my voice heard I was really really wanting to focus on doing things solely for myself and validating.
And just through a series of events, I kind of woke up one day and said, no, we're not doing it for those reasons.
So I can kind of empathize why some people starting on the scene or just in general would be looking to do a lot of things themselves.
But I think just through maturity, I had the privilege of doing like two wonderful years of traveling and just my world just opened up in terms of realizing how many wonderful parts of our community there are and the work that they do and how they do it just because they enjoy it rather than making a point or a statement.
You know, I don't know where this is going, kind of like spiraling a little bit, but it's just a shame that unfortunately a lot of, you know, as we say, leaders of politics, how their ethic and personality are kind of almost copied and pasted sometimes towards the smallest of scenes sometimes such as ours.
But, you know, I think you can flip that as well.
As we say, are we like, are we half empty or half full? I'd kind of say half full is my personality nowadays.
And, you know, amidst so much crap, I see some really good stuff sometimes.
happening on the scene.
You know, like 10 names of people just came across my head of some fantastic work that they're doing as a result of the outside world not agreeing with who we are as people and how we operate in the scene.
Yeah, I was just thinking about that and I was thinking back to your clock mechanism and I was thinking, well, I don't know if you have something that's rusted in a box of stuff that isn't rusted.
It's very easy for the other items to become rusty because the rust will just spread across the items.
But if you work and you pick out objects that aren't, you can really identify those that shine.
In a world that's rusty, people can shine brighter if you work on it and polish it up.
I don't know if that works in terms of that we...
It's very easy to succumb to everything that's going on around us.
