I just was at the Reading Terminal's Ice Cream Fest where they shut down all of Filbert Street.

That looked epic.

I was the judge.

I got to judge nine different Sundays.

I saw three different heats of ten people trying to eat ice cream the fastest I've ever seen.

No hands, right? No hands.

It was all face.

Just face.

Face and ice cream.

else was like halfway through it barely

but there was like times where there was like down times as you know with events where they're cleaning things up and i went to to check out some of the other stands uh where it's pay as you go and of course like any good ice cream shop they give out samples sure right and And there's long lines to this.

And there was someone in front of me and they're like, oh, can I sample this one? Can I sample this one? Can I sample this one? And by the time he got to the third one, I was like, you know what fucking vanilla tastes like? Why are you sampling vanilla? I wanted to say something.

So what is, I wanted both of your opinions.

What is the appropriate amount of samples when there is a line of people behind you and you want to get ice cream? Is it one, two, three, four?

If there's a line of people.

I think if it's like down the shore and you've been waiting more than 20 minutes, you can have three.

And by the third one, you have to already know what you're getting.

But at two, I was just like, yeah.

See, at a place like that where you're not going to get a whole cone of like mac and cheese, like I want to try it.

Van Leeuwen did a collab with Kraft Macaroni and Cheese.

I was like,

wait, we're doing cones of mac and cheese? I like that, actually.

If there's a long line, I say you get one sample.

You get one and done.

Eat one.

If there's a long line of people, especially down the shore, and there's a whole line, and you waited at least five to ten minutes to get to your place, you've been looking at the menu the whole time you were in line for the last five to ten minutes.

I also think it depends on what kind of place it is.

If it's like your standard like flavors, you should have an idea of what you want.

We all know what vanilla tastes like.

But if it's like a

really inventive

place.

Like pickled ice cream or something like that.

I get that.

Like I want to try the pickled ice cream before I commit five to eight dollars to a sundae.

And also like one small sample can be fine.

But do you really want a whole cone of it?

That's why I allow one sample.

If there's nobody there or there's only a couple people, yeah, go ahead.

Oh, you know the girl working? Yeah, have two or three samples.

Whatever.

But if there's a long line, it drives me nuts.
