**THIS IS PART ONE OF TWO** **For more true crime check out Kimbyr's Podcast True Crime with Kimbyr:** HERE The Jesse…
This is a college campus, the University of Missouri, or as it's more commonly known, Mizzou.
It's Saturday, June 5th of 2004.
It's the first real heat of the summer.
And the campus feels like that weird in-between.
Some kids are gone, some kids are starting summer classes, and a lot of people are just kind of drifting.
Now it's 2.10 p.m. A couple students are cutting through the East Campus neighborhood just off Mizzou, the kind of off-campus area that's packed with houses that are now turned into student apartments.
And between two of those buildings, there's a strip of grass that everyone uses as a shortcut.
It's near a parking lot between 1513 and 1517 Wilson Avenue.
They're expecting maybe overgrown weeds, some empty beer cans.
Instead, one of them, Matt Fintekane, sees something else, a body.
It's a white male.
His light skin is contrasting against the dark green grass, and he's lying face up in that space between the two homes.
He looks young, maybe in his early 20s, maybe younger, and he's wearing nothing but dark blue boxer briefs.
And there is so much blood that even from a distance, they knew this wasn't someone who passed out drunk.
There were flies that were buzzing around his neck.
This isn't someone who needs an ambulance.
This is someone who's already gone.
And the students are just frozen.
They're staring.
They're trying to make sense of it all.
And then finally, one of them dials 911.
And the patrol cars roll in the same way they do for any sort of parking issue or noise complaint.
The officers step out, expecting to find some kind of horrible accident.
