Here is the back half of my conversation with Melbourne's songwriting gem, Dan Brodie! We lead off with the track "I've Been Drinking a Lot" and stories of life with and without alcohol…
Dan BrodyGuestWell, the record continues on, and I've been drinking a lot.
This theme, I think, has returned on the past two records, at least Funeraria and Ballad of Cowboy Dan.
There are some drinking songs and a little bit of detail there on the rituals, the routines.
I do like on the album, starting with Suburban Dreaming, that real frantic tempo.
It feels like... just the cacophony of noise and the stuff, the crazy and the mundane all mashed together, a little microcosm of some of our lives.
Tell me about, yeah, on my drinking, or I've been drinking a lot, that song, my own drinking song.
I don't want to put you on the spot, but are you still sober going on a few years here?
Congratulations, Dan.

Well, when I wrote that, I was still... actually i was still drinking so um i might move away from that theme for a few years but i still find it i still find it very interesting um people's mindsets in alcohol addiction who maybe have a problem and refuse to confront it because it's not you know the addiction's always the end product it's not really the i don't know i don't i'm not an expert the way i see it is that it's a It's the end product of a whole bunch of issues that you've got going on in your life, namely ego at the center.
Yes.
One of my favorite lines here, Rigby, your dog is finding it hard to forgive me.
And that says a lot about my dog, Rigby.
There's another bit of that Dan Brody humor.
You're going to find it.
You just got to wait for it.
Some of these tries.
