30. Cruise Lines Are Getting Pushback: NCL, Carnival, Royal Headaches & More

Uh, you know, the, it, it reminds me of something that happened in cruising this week that people may get into a, a, a bloody fisticuffs over.

Could you imagine if a cruise line starts charging you if you happen to take food outside the buffet?

Insane.

Well-

... is that what they say the penalty was? I think, like, w- w-

It's a cleaning fee.

... that's nuanced, right?

So, uh, I don't know, man.

It, like, uh, as I was looking at it, you know, you could, you could spin it a couple ways, right? But, uh, I guess it's Costa Cruise Line, which they're a part of the Carnival Corporation, so they're under the Carnival umbrella.

They're saying that, you know, look, there's appropriate places for the food, and we don't want food outside of there because, uh, a lot of stuff could happen.

You could, you know, it's, uh, not clean, or, uh, somebody could get a, a contagion or something like that.

And, uh, apparently, that if, you know, if, if you have food outside of the designated eateries, then, uh, they're gonna charge you a cleaning fee.

But I don't know, man.

I, I feel like part of the, like, one of the tent poles of cruising is being able to be a little piggy all over the cruise ship.

It's, it is kinda bizarre because I think the truth is, and I say this a lot, it's the rule, it's the, it's, it's the rule that's apparently been in place.

It's very much discouraged by Costa.

Now, I looked into it a little bit, and I couldn't necessarily find out as to whether or not most cruise lines have this hard and fast rule to where, you know, they can enforce it as they see fit, taking other food from a venue, mostly the buffet, and bringing it to wherever you want, whether it's your stateroom, whether it's a different part of the ship.

And my research told me that they don't even know.

It's not even clear what the actual rules are, but nobody's really enforcing this.
