What It's Really Like to Be a Surrogate

I just want to start with how did surrogacy even get on your radar?

I mean, honestly, I've been thinking about surrogacy since I was 18.

I looked into that when I was 18 and I hadn't had kids yet.

And I was like, Oh man, the only requirement is like at that time is that you had to have kids.

So I was like, Oh, well, I guess this will be something I have to look into in the future.

And then it's so funny.

Did you even like, how did you hear about surrogacy at 18? Was it like people magazine and like that kind of thing?

Um, actually my mom had looked into it.

Like it was, she was having a conversation with one of her friends about being a surrogate, like way back when.

And, uh, she had looked into it herself.

And so I kind of heard about it on and off here and there.

And I was like, you know, That sounds awesome.

Like I at the time, I didn't think I would ever have kids.

So I was like, I'd love to be able to do that for somebody else, even if I don't ever have kids.

Sure, sure.

So, yeah.

So I started looking into it then and I was like, man, OK, well, I guess if I ever had kids and this will be something that I can look into then.

Yeah.

And, you know, it's kind of come up on and off throughout the years.

And like every time my husband and I had looked into it, something something would happen like with our family where I wouldn't be able to do it then.

So it would just get pushed back a little bit.

And so finally, for my 30th birthday, I told my husband, I was like, look, this is something I wanted to do for years.

So if it's OK with you, this is something I want to prioritize.

And like he was absolutely on board.

So
