Most of the rules that run your company were never actually designed. They accreted, one exception at a time, until everyone was carrying policies written for people who no longer work there…
Kim BohrHost
which rule do leaders maybe defend the hardest and hold on to the most that you think is something that they just need to move off of?
I think the culture book versus like the handbook and like we need rules for everything.
And the first thing he said without even thinking was like, we need a policy for this.
And then he looked at me and he's like, oh, this is what you talk about, huh? Yeah.
Because his instant reaction was we have to write a policy for this instead of go talk to that employee that messed this up and tell them don't do this again.
policies for the exceptions right so if it's something that really does apply to everyone let's do it but if you're telling me to write something for one person absolutely not the answer is always going to be no and that is what people fight the hardest because i don't know where in the rule book we got that like if we write a policy they're not going to do it anymore
