This week on CountrifiedUK, we’re joined by Texas country music legend Wade Bowen for a brilliant conversation about his career, songwriting, Texas country and his latest album, The Version Of Me You…
Um, but let's move now from Texas to Manchester because we were recently at Megan Rooney's show at the O2 Apollo in Manchester, uh, for the Cloud9 tour, um, and what a night it was.
I know that we've talked about Megan quite a bit on Countrywide UK over the last couple of years, and we've seen her career absolutely explode.
I think that was probably the seventh or eighth time we've seen Megan.
Um, we've seen her f- on her very first tour when she came to the UK, when she came back from the Am I, Am I OK tour to the Cloud9 one, and then so many times in Nashville as well.
But just seeing her come across headlining venues, bigger venues this time, um, it also is just a reminder of how quickly country music has grown across here.
I've seen all the pictures.
She performed Arena across there, which was the first arena she's done across here.
So well done, Megan, for that one.
Um, and yeah, the show itself, like not just saying it, that is possibly one of the best country music shows I've seen in the UK.
It had a bit of everything.
The setlist was fantastic that Megan had picked.
So just to quickly run through the setlist.
So, um, she performed 21 songs.
Um, first there was Stupid, Medicine, Bless Your Heart.
And convincing, I'm not pretty into Lucky, Change of Heart, No Caller ID, Wonder, Who Hurt You, Liars, Tigers and Bears, Wedding Dresses and Waiting on the Rain, Bells and Whistles, Cloud Nine.
Then she does a special song every night which is different, so we got I Know You, Into Beautiful Things, Wish I Didn't, Traitor, Hair Salon, Tennessee Orange, Am I Okay? And then finishing on Six Months Later.
And that setlist, uh, was just perfect.
It was brilliant.
It was a mixture of all her three albums that she's done.
It was good, good mixture of songs, um, from, you know, slow to fast to Megan dancing on the stage.
And I think one of the most interesting things about seeing Megan live is how much the audience know every single word.
And it's not just the big songs, it's the deeper cuts too, and that tells you that an artist has properly connected with the audience, and that's particularly important when we're talking about American country artists coming across to the UK.
It's one thing to have a few songs that British country fans know.
It's another thing to entirely have an audience singing your catalog back at you.
