So, she's 2 minutes over the gd limit. But this minianimated video cut from my last bigass post explains the link…
psychedelics appear to inhibit the small-s self, our top-down prefrontal control that often contains our core beliefs, and allows other parts of the brain to talk, leading to relief from chronically limiting thoughts, memories, feelings, and behaviors that roughly amount to PTSD symptoms.
The large S self is this experience or is found through this experience.
Now, remember, we usually only get the PTSD if circumstances get worse after a trauma or if we aren't socially supported to talk it out and make positive meaning of it.
Hence, the negative trauma aftermath.
is the real problem, more so than the trauma.
Often, this includes hypercritical assessments of yourself and the world, all of humanity, the way the universe is slanted against you.
This leads to hypervigilant monitoring for similar events so that you can catch them before they really take root.
together.
This creates a constantly negative, no-leaning, self-disparaging control program that becomes the default mode operation for the brain.
The daily experience, the can'ts, shoulds, and musts that rule a lifetime.
And...
The small s self is wrapped up in all of this.
It is those rules.
It creates them and holds you to them because the small s self, remember, is ego, identity, and all of the ways that you survive and celebrate and also self-hate.
So the small-ass self is keeping one miserable when it is sick, like after a negative trauma aftermath.
And psychedelics come in to silence that force and to allow for new experiences to be felt, noticed, and then processed.
And all of this feels a lot like a rebirth, this new attempt at living that opens up, which feels like you're doing it bravely, excitedly, freed from the one-dimensional trauma brain and the life that it was causing you to live.
So the small S self is the problem because it gets sick after traumas with negative aftermaths.
The big S self is the solution because it serves as an alternative operational mode that goes around or really underneath.
the small S sick self, allowing for tinkering on that program from a separate place and letting new, more accurate data become integrated in order to transform the small S self so that it is actually informed and aligned with the big S self.
And this is the post-traumatic growth that we all strive for that makes excellent stories.
Your small-ass self 2.0 having gone through trauma, processed the suffering, and finding inner fire for life again on the other side.
Probably just a larger life of different colors.
And all of this is found through the big S self.
