Episode 3: Huck and Tim

What really gets Tim is the big picture of it all.

He says that Huck had been diagnosed with OCD when younger.

They signed him up for TaeKwonDo to address that diagnosis, and it worked.

Not only did it work, it turned out that Huck was good at it, really good, quickly ascending to a black belt.

Then he was diagnosed with a joint disorder.

The doctor warned Huck that any joint injury could cause lifelong problems.

He told Huck to give up this thing that he loved.

Huck had a real down period until he discovered theater.

It was his new passion, and so, you know, fast-forward a year, now it's ... or a year and a half, it's starting to become so toxic that he doesn't even, uh-

Hmm

... enjoy being there-

Yeah

...

even though he knows it's still his passion.

So for us as parents, it's like, you know, some kid who's dealing with his own thing-

Hmm

... or group of kids, um, is now starting to bully our, our kid out of, you know, his passion.

It seems overwhelming to me.

I asked Tim, "How are you applying Buddhist principles to this?" Tim takes a big sigh.

One of his biggest supports has, in fact, been Huck.

"Huck's been through a lot," Tim says.

"It makes him wiser than his years." Huck reminded Tim that when it came to the lead bully-

He's a kid.

He's a high school kid.

And, um, you know, don't expect him to have it all together.
