September is National Recovery Month, and this week’s guests on the Coffee Table are from Kachemak Bay Recovery Connections, to talk about recovery and local programs. We discuss the importance of…
Um, we are celebrating international overdose awareness day, which is, um, not just celebrated here, but throughout the country.
Um, and the day is actually August 31st that people normally celebrate, but we had our big race on the weekend.
Um, and we are going to meet at K-Bay recovery, uh, at our, uh, home base there at 5 p.m. for soup and bread and conversation.
And we're going to have a meal together and then we're going to walk together down Pioneer Ave to WKFL Park where we've put steaks in this week and there are I believe 245 stakes that represent the 245 individuals that passed away from overdose in 2025.
So it's a way to honor them and remember them without stigma and shame and just to recognize the impacts of overdose and to remember those that we've lost in Alaska.
And so we're going to walk down there and be at the park around six o'clock and just sort of have a little memorial be able to take the time to honor those lives together.
So if you have somebody that you've lost or you want to write a message of hope, something encouraging, you can take a Sharpie and just take the time to do that.
I've lost people to overdose, and it can be a hard thing to walk through alone.
And so we want to be there together as a community to honor those lives.
