658: Games Dev With Grenis

I am available right now for consulting projects if you have anything you need done, particularly in the, well, shocking development world, right? Couple little news pieces too, though.

So right as I was sitting down to record this, I was reading NVIDIA's dev blog, and they've apparently released a CUDA interface for Rust.

I don't know more than their initial press release announcement, But this is super interesting.

You see a lot of these AI labs are moving towards Rust.

I, in my kind of world of enterprising, somewhat conservative, regulated enterprises, am seeing a little more interest in Rust from people I would be frankly surprised they even know the term.

So, that's something to think about.

I don't know if that's kind of a marketing win by Rust.

I mean, obviously, if you're doing Rust right, there definitely are advantages there over assuming you're not just throwing that unsafe keyword around like a lunatic.

But this is something to keep an eye on because I think it is getting more and more acceptance.

You know, I'm sure there's a bunch of C++ developers.

I hear you.

I have tons of C++ myself running around, kind of, you know, streaming at their phones right now.

But it is a trend.

It is an interesting trend.

Of course, separating the hype from the actual practical advantages is always a challenge, especially...

You know, there's a little bit of fear mongering, I think, going on with the people who are super aggressively pushing Rust.

But there's a kernel of truth in there.

And certainly when done correctly, the advantages are real.

So take that for a grain of salt.

I'm going to follow the CUDA story a little closer.

NVIDIA has their, I guess we'd call it a conference, coming up in Washington, D.C., I think in a month.

maybe a month and a half.

So I'm sure there's going to be plenty more on this then and probably some workshops and samples and things like that that we can kind of dig into.

Again, and that's not to say that Cuda is the only game in town, but it is certainly, especially when you're talking about the AI stuff, the leader.
