Be aware that having an association between two things does not mean that one of the things causes the other.

There are times I may suggest this, but unless I cite research, that is my interpretation.

In reality, when two things are related to each other or correlated, the first may cause the second.

Related conditions may share the same unusual protein, or may have two or more different proteins passed along together.
neurodivergence

Because of this, all five of their children have the same subtype of Ehlers-Danlos.

Current statistics say that the number of people with Ehlers-Danlos who are also neurodivergent is roughly 39%.

Since I believe neurodivergent is grossly underdiagnosed, I would guess that number is far higher.

Another study claims 51% of neurodivergent people have hypermobile joints, which is the hallmark of Ehlers-Danlos.

In total, up to 80% of neurodivergent people have connective tissue conditions such as Ehlers-Danlos.

Since both conditions are underdiagnosed, and many persons diagnosed with one were never checked to see if they had the other, 80% may be a low estimate.

The same is true of all my extended family, including my niece, who has had multiple knee dislocations.
