Extreme Events in California’s Changing Climate

[intro music] I work with, uh, this, uh, group.

We call it, we call ourselves, uh, WEClima, Weather Extremes and Climate Impacts Analytics at Scripps, uh, Institution of Oceanography.

Uh, and, uh, uh, everybody is working on some aspect of, uh, extreme weather and how it's related to climate variability and climate change, how to use those relationships to understand, predict impactful weather patterns better.

Uh, and, uh, we're also very interested in the impacts, uh, of extreme weather on society, um, and ecosystems [laughs] like Steve said.

So that's, uh, a list of the kind of things that we work on.

And, uh, I'm just going to go over a few of these and really just, uh, you know, maybe at first describe, uh, what climate change is about and, and then how it may be impacting the kinds of impactful events that we actually feel and care about.
