WE'RE BACK! We talk about the buzziest movies from TIFF, Venice and Telluride. Plus we look back at our wayyy-too-early Oscars draft. If only we knew La Bola Negra was coming. What else did we miss?…
So maybe before we jump into what we're really here to talk about, which is all the movies that came out of those festivals and what the year might look like going forward, I feel like there is one or two big news items that we should maybe talk about just as people who care about this space.
So the first one is, because I think we talked about it in the past.
Yes.
Yes.
which was proposed the last time that you and I spoke, but has now, just earlier this month, been approved and will go through.
I think we've already sort of unpacked what the implications of this would be at a very high level.
Do you have any follow-up thoughts now that we know that it's a for-sure thing?

people experiencing films together in person.
So I feel like the concern maybe is like, do they really feel that way or were they forced to feel that way? Well, they were forced to feel that way and it's a contractual obligation.
It is.
I think, which works, except the only source of concern for me as someone who's not really well-versed in the business of Hollywood is that... those release obligations that you mentioned are only for five years.
Yes.
Which in the lifetime of these studios could be a very short amount of time.
And so I'm like, what happens on year six?
Yes, but also in the lifetime of technology is a very long time.
And so the Oscars are going to YouTube.
AI has been changing the game for the last two years.
Who knows? Maybe in five years, we'll have movies directly streamed into our brains.
To the chip in our
brain.
