#312 - Don't Look Now

i was really disappointed to be honest um this film has been built up as like this mythical horror film in my mind, just three years of hearing it spoken about, but I've really never known anything about it.

And just the way that people talk about it and like its status, I was just kind of expecting, I mean, for one, something more directly horror.

And I mean, like it not being straight horror anymore, like the kind of thriller or like on the drama aspect of it, that's fine.

But then even so, we got such a mess.

It's such a mess, man.

And I get why it's a mess.

I was reading up about it, but it is such a mess.

And the ending comes out of nowhere, and it's like, ah, surprise, it was a dwarf.

It just means nothing.

I think the acting is quite poor, and I think the ADR is horrible, and I'm honestly surprised that Donald got work after this.

Um... there's like a really solid 30 minutes probably close to the end when like all the confusion is coming to a head when she's in england and and he's like hitting me like this is big paranoia like like the they achieve this suffocating unknownness and they convey that really well and like you feel that too like like like they're they're there's a solid chunk there but it's it's just kind of it's just kind of buried in a mess of other things um Yeah, it was quite disappointing.

It's not all bad, but yeah, especially after how much it's been talked up online to me, I was let down.

yeah yeah i really struggled to get into this film and despite looking for something the whole time i just never found anything i connected to or even found very impressive about it um it's not poorly made by any means but i don't know i was just left pretty much entirely unsatisfied by it unfortunately yeah

um yeah i feel i feel pretty much the same i mean i want to be cool and and like this film um because i think it is a cool film to to like um but it's just yeah it's just weird like it's just weird in a way that's like Like everything about the film was weird.

The acting is weird.

Like Donald, Donald Sutherland was like creepy, like cheeky smile throughout the whole film.

That's the kind of smile you would do.

yeah that's kind of true um but like he like he he was the acting was kind of poor because he was just he was way too chill about certain things in the in the start it was like like his whole his wife's thing about um like wanting to go to the church wanting to like explore the psychics more it was just kind of like endearing to him like he would give that smile to his wife um whenever she would like go further down that kind of like, Avenue, and it was, like, he didn't really treat it seriously until he kind of had these, like, weird, like, outbursts, um, where he was just, like, he was just, like, screaming in a really weird way, and then, as you said, like, yeah, the ADR is not, is not great, um, yeah, some scenes are just really, like, indulgently long, I mean, one obvious scene, uh, is, uh, the nude scene, the sex scene, um, and yeah, it just doesn't, um, It doesn't fully deliver on the psychological horror element in the end.

If it went for straight horror, there would have been something more to lash onto.

Yeah, I don't know, it just kind of, it just kind of ends with a, I don't know, it's not even a whimper, because it's like, like, the dwarf thing is just so strange that you can't even call it that, it's just, it just ends on a weird note, which just makes everything about this film, you know, weird and not, yeah, not fully satisfying.

um but i mean i do like i do like how venice is shot in this film and i think i don't know the soft lighting the atmosphere is very um it's very nice it kind of you know buoys boys the films along um nicely so um yeah yeah what should we get into first i mean i guess we should just go into someone's acting first it's probably the main thing i mean subject
