The Blue Jackets are Back - September 23,2026

Wednesday, September 23rd, and the Columbus Blue Jackets are eight days away from their home opener next Thursday night against the Buffalo Sabres inside Nationwide Arena.

Welcome to the Inside Edge.

I am Dylan Tyer.

With me is Jody Shelley.

Jody, the Blue Jackets are halfway done with their preseason.

They opened up with a shootout victory, 1-0 over the Red Wings in Columbus.

Then last night, they hit the road to Buffalo and lost that game 5-1.

So before we get into anything else, because we do have a lot to cover, early impressions, it's been all about effort so far in these preseason games.

What have you thought?

Yeah, well, let's go back.

And good to see you, Dylan, in another year of the Inside Edge.

Things have changed a little bit, but nice to have you at the helm.

And this has always been a fun show to do.

So we'll have fun with this all season long.

Let's go back to last season, how it ended for the Blue Jackets.

And, you know, a lot of anticipation coming into this season of what the tone was going to be, actually knowing what it was going to be, but how it was going to be executed and kind of what the veterans were going to look like.

And...

You know, you hear the noise in the offseason and I hear this dialogue that, oh, what's with Columbus again? And I'm like, OK, whatever.

I don't mind a little bit of chaos, but there's business to be done.

And there were some instances throughout the offseason, the Wierenski situation, but it got ironed out.

He's here at camp.

He's one of the best players, if not the best defenseman in the National Hockey League team.

And the way he looks, I feel like he's going to be again.

This team, to me, wants the puck on the ice because you can talk about the Blue Jackets, and I know there was an incident in camp where Goodbranson and Wood.

I mean, come on.
