For this other segment, I like to hopefully get my guests to share some practical tips.
If people were thinking, I think I'm in this scenario, how can I help myself? For someone who says, I hate office politics, what's the first thing you'd want to say to them or make them understand?
And then I would walk them through what else could have been true in that situation.
John might have been having a bad day when he delivered that really difficult information or maybe it was a really uncomfortable situation for him and he didn't want to tell you that the executive team didn't receive it well.
But what else could be true in that situation? Come up with five or six ideas and then go from there.
And so what's one biggest mistake that people make when they're trying to avoid participating in quote-unquote office politics?
And so you have to learn to formulate an opinion that is best for the people and the business.
Absolutely.
But yeah, I do agree.
Just say it and yeah, pick a side.
It is very hard to sit in a room where three of your peers or your boss has just said something and you disagree.
It is a skill that you build and you've got to talk about it from the top down.
Like how does it affect the system? If you can start talking about, In systems, it's going to be easier for people to think about the big picture.
Absolutely.
And I think a lot of times people consider or think about themselves alone when they're sharing this type of opinions.
And that definitely wouldn't give a balanced perspective.
