Donna Bentley-CarrHostyou you live round about it it's a really interesting perspective and a really great way of describing it actually so i'm really grateful for you to come on here today and and explain all of that because i think that's going to be really impactful for so many listeners So any advice you can give to carers, just general advice from your experience of having come across so many of them? I
think it's important to look to services that are out there that support people in their caring roles.
Because when we say to them, oh, we can refer you to Carers of West Dunn, they'll go, oh, no, we don't need Carers of West Dunn just yet.
And you say, no, it's for you and your caring role.
And they kind of look as if, but I'm okay.
And you're like, no, but you're caring for someone that's tiring.
That's, you know, you need support.
It's an emotionally kind of demanding role that people are taking on and, and the majority of carers are unpaid so it's important that they get peer support through these kind of organisations that are set up a lot of which are third sector and take time for themselves and look into options for the person that they're caring for to access opportunities as well that might be through day sessions at care homes and things like that anything that can bring respite and And if somebody is struggling in their care role, do go to your doctor and ask if there is a community links or a social prescriber in the area that can help because it can make a massive difference.
Even we can refer people into men's groups or women's groups that aren't necessarily for carers.
It's just looking at, okay, do you want a routine out with your caring role? What space have you got in your week that that we can get time in for you on your own to see if they can access local gyms or anything that would help their mental wellbeing while they're in a caring role as well.
Yeah, that's really interesting.
