[upbeat music] The village of Snaggleton was usually a bright and colorful place, but lately it had been looking a bit gray and smelling a bit smoky.
You see, Snaggleton ran on heat.
[fire crackling] Granny Gigglesnort the witch needed a roaring fire under her cauldron to brew her potions.
Without heat, the potions turned into cold, lumpy jelly that tasted like wet rats.
[potions bubbling] Gerta Grimswill the hobgoblin needed a hot stove at the Glugging Gargoyle Tavern to fry her bog beetle sausages.
Without heat, the sausages were just cold, rubbery tubes that squeaked when you chewed them.
[sausages squeaking] Sparky Flarkbottom the gnome inventor needed steam to power her inventions.
Her workshop was full of boilers and furnaces.
Without heat, her machines just sat there, looking like piles of scrap metal.
[machines hissing] And Fergus O'Gold the leprechaun needed fire to melt down his gold nuggets to make shiny coins.
[fire crackling] [coins clinking] [laughs] To get all this heat, the Snaggletonians burned wood, lots of wood.
They burned logs, twigs, branches, and stumps.
Every chimney in the village puffed out gray smoke.
[fire crackling] But on this particular day, there was a problem.
The woodpile behind the castle was empty.
Even the sticks in the goblins' burrow were gone.
We are out of fuel.
Cried Sir Chucklenugget the knight, standing in the village square in his bathrobe.
My bathwater is freezing.
A knight cannot be heroic with goosebumps on his knees.
We need more wood.
Shouted Grumblegut the ogre.
My rock soup is just rocks and cold water.
It's horror-ficulous.
The village turned to the Terrible Trio.
