Trust and Obey

As promised, the title of this talk is Trust and Obey, 1 Timothy chapter 4 and verse 7.

Paul writing to Timothy.

Okay.

Yes, that's it.

1 Timothy 4, verse 7.

This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.

For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach because we trust in the living God who is the saviour of all men, especially of those that believe.

These things command and teach.

So this aspect that Paul is writing to Timothy, who was ordained a pastor, was to impress upon these things and teach about these things, these faithful sayings, that you can suffer reproach, you do all this labour, these things in the kingdom of God, that you're careful.

with what you listen to, with what you say.

You're refusing profane and old wives' fables, exercising yourself to godliness, all these things.

And in amongst that, trust the living God.

So important to trust the living God.

And he explains why.

He says, trust the living God who is the saviour of all men.

So you trust him, that he is your saviour, that you will be raised up at the end of this age, whether you're asleep in Christ or whether you're still walking on the face of the earth, you'll be raised up.

God himself is presenting himself as a trustworthy God and he's encouraging us to trust him who is the saviour of all men.

And with that trust flows on the effort that we have in leading a life that is acceptable.

And these things that Timothy was encouraged to command and teach.
