Jason chats with Emily Vincent.
So last week I started some test ads for the cats campaign, good kitties and super chunk with the expectation that it would go swimmingly and I'd be moving into, you know, scaling up my ads, you know, right after Gen Con.
And it actually has gone terribly, like really, really badly.
I'm not getting email addresses.
I'm not getting people doing the $1 VIP.
And basically I've thrown some money here at ads that just aren't working at all.
Right,
right.
And so that was, you know, humbling and confusing and all of it's a lot of big feelings around it.
And so I've been sort of figuring out what to do because there's there's always a little bit of oh, maybe if I just give it another day or so, they'll bounce back, right? But I've tried to sort of set myself up to believe the numbers, and the numbers will tell you something, and when they do, you need to respond to it.
I can't just move forward on hope, right? So I'm basically, at this point, basically shutting down those ads and spent the last three or four days just sort of being like,
And trying to understand what's happening.
And I think yesterday I turned a corner on.
okay, I need to make a plan.
I need to react.
I need to do something.
So basically I am throwing out all of the ad creative that I've created, which are like the images and stuff like that and saying, I need to try some different stuff because for whatever reason, it looks like people are seeing the ads and if they see the ads and actually click into the landing page, then my numbers are fine, right? It's the getting people to my landing page that's not working.
yeah and um you know i've i've chatted with the launch boom folks a little bit and i've chatted with other folks who've been doing advertising right and they're sort of there's two there's two theories right uh some of which are testable and some of which are not right so one is that something weird is happening with the targeting on facebook the audience optimization who it's picking to feed these ads to it's not feeding them to the right folks So whenever I restart some testing, I can try to sort of narrow in my audience a little bit more, or like, there's a couple of things I can do there, but it's, it's pretty black box and it's just hard to, to know what the heck is happening right now.
My audiences are pretty broad.
So narrowing it may work a little bit better.
But that's, that's the thing that I don't want to throw money at until I do this next step, which is to completely change how I'm advertising the games.
