This episode, we will be talking to some students who, over the course of the summer, competed at a high level in Little League baseball.
And before we go to join these students on location, I wanted to give you a little context to what we're going to be talking about.
As many of you know, Columbus, Georgia has a deep tradition of successful Little League baseball.
This year, two teams from our local American Little League, a 10U team and a 12U team, made a big splash.
At the 10U level, the kids started by winning the district here in Columbus, District 8, and then went on to win the state tournament in Athens for the first time since 2015.
After that, the 10U team went on to what's called the Tournament of State Champions, held every year in Wilson, North Carolina, where representatives from eight states around the Southeast compete for a championship.
While they didn't win, they did come away as a semifinalist, finishing in the top four, which is a huge accomplishment.
From the same Little League, American Little League, which draws Brookstone students, the 12U team won the district, won the state, and went to the Southeast Regional over in Warner Robins.
Not only were they competing against the best in the country, they also were on TV.
Joining the boys will be Brookstone head varsity baseball coach Greg Mathis.
Part of the reason Greg will be joining us today is because he too won a state championship as a American Little League coach and even went on to win a regional championship.
So the connectivity between our varsity baseball program and our Little Leaguers here at Brookstone is really important and really thick and Greg followed us throughout this tournament and cheered us all on.
