So check it out yeah so today then we're talking all about what to do when you forget a word in English I'm sure it's happened to you Christ it happens to me sometimes you know and I'm a native speaker I'm sure it happens to you in your native language as well but in your native language you're usually a bit more equipped to deal with that situation right so let's actually talk about it first of all The situation is that for whatever reason, while you're speaking, you forget a word, right? You know, that word, you know it when you hear it and when you see it, and usually you're able to find it, but for some reason today, that word's gone missing.
You know, it's disappeared.
You don't know where it's gone.
And that is something that happens to everybody.
It's frustrating, but for whatever reason, this word's just completely disappeared, right? Or, I don't know if this happens to you, this happens to me sometimes.
I'll start my sentence and I'll be halfway through the sentence.
And then my brain is like, oh, by the way, you don't know that word that's coming up.
Like, oh yeah, great.
Thanks for telling me that halfway through a sentence.
You know, so you're halfway through your sentence.
Then you realize you don't know a word that you need to say to finish this sentence.
So that's basically what we're talking about, right? And this can happen at work.
It could happen on the phone, social situations, whatever.
You know, it happens all the time.
But what usually happens after that is where the problem starts, right? You know, we're all human.
We all forget words.
That's life, isn't it? But the problem is what happens next.
You know, the result of forgetting the word.
And, you know, this is like you'll just pause forever.
You know, because you're searching for that word in your brain, you can't speak because you're searching, right? Your brain is doing something else.
So you probably pause and you'll do things like, you know, kind of fill in that gap with those sounds, you know, while you're trying desperately to find the missing word, right? Worse than that, that I've seen, people stop the conversation, whip out their smartphone, and they'll ask Google Translate or ChatGPT.
Can you imagine you're in a conversation at work and somebody says, excuse me, just pause this conversation for a minute.
I need to get on my phone and ask chat GPT-R to say this word.
Yeah, it'll do the job, but it's not a good look, is it? It's not great for communication and building connection with people.
Excuse me, please wait while I just look at my phone for a couple of seconds.
