The photo's cut off a little bit there, but there are actually five couples there in that moment being commissioned.

Pastor Peter and Maria there, John and Narelle Ward might be there, and then also Mal and Kathy Alder might be just cut off, but they're in that photo.

And they were stepping out into obedience to the future that God wanted to bring.

Now, when I talk to them or hear them speak, of looking back over 34 years and all that God has done, the hundreds of lives and families, the baptisms, the ministries that have started, the care into the community, the impact across the world, they look back and say something like this.

I don't know what they were praying or thinking at that time, but what God has done is greater than what they could expect or imagine.

We can get a little glimpse in terms of what they were thinking and praying through Peter's journal.

And I've got a little bit of a journal entry here that he wrote in 1992, I think September 1992.

He says, May we be people who have a desire to be a city of God where people are drawn to you in peace and freedom, where burdens are lifted off people, people are healed and where the gospel is made known.
