Bit Harmony: A Videogame Music Podcast
Aug 23, 2026 · 3 hr 20 min · 12 segments
When you loaded up an episode of a videogame music podcast dedicated to Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, you probably (rightly) expected a David Wise glazefest. But you almost certainly didn't…
And that was Busted Bayou, again, from Donkey Kong Country, Tropical Freeze.
To me, there was no other way we could intro this episode than Busted Bayou.
You know, the whole soundtrack, as you said before the break, one of the best of all time, I would say.
And yet, Busted Bayou is still so good that this is still like the Tropical Freeze song to me.
Yeah, it certainly is one of them.
It's in contention for me.
It is definitely the song that I think of when I think of this game, yeah.
It definitely, this is what we call here at BitHarmony some walking down the street music.
I had that in my notes, yeah.
I hadn't gone there yet, but it's in
there.
Very, very good.
Very carefree, very fun, yeah.
This is the juice here.
And we're going to talk about what it meant when David Weiss was confirmed to be returning to compose Tropical Freeze later, but...
Right off the rip.
Yeah.
And even still, World 1 is pretty tame overall, right? Like, it's kind of reintroducing you to Donkey Kong in a platformer context and...
reintroducing like david wise's music stylings to you like it's so much more textured and whatever than anything in returns but even still world one is pretty tame soundtrack wise compared to everything else that comes immediately after it except for busted by you This is like the first song in the soundtrack in the game that really just demands that you just sit down and shut up.
Like, my mouth was agape.
Even replaying the game a week ago, I still was like, damn, I can't believe he did this.
Like, between the flutes, the xylophones, the funky bass, and to say nothing of the saxophone, it's crazy.
It's a really, really crazy song.
