Health Europe is one of the largest healthcare innovation events in Europe.
More than 5,000 people from over 70 countries came together there, including leaders from hospitals and healthcare systems, pharma and biotech, technology companies, investment and government.
It brings together many of the different people who are shaping what healthcare could look like in the future, which gave me the opportunity to explore a very broad range of ideas while I was there.
This time, we move into four very different areas.
We start with a microbiome and what the bacteria living in and on our bodies might be able to tell us about our health.
Then we look at something as simple as our breath and whether it could help identify the risk of serious diseases much earlier.
We also look at a problem that receives far less attention.
What happens when patients don't or simply can't follow the treatment they've been given? And finally, we look at the enormous computing infrastructure behind AI and what it is making possible in medicine, from drug discovery to diagnostics.
Four very different conversations, but again, all looking at how healthcare could become more preventative, more personalized, and ultimately more effective.
So let's head back to Amsterdam in Health Europe, where the following conversations were recorded.
My first guest is Dr. Marta Cichonska, CEO and co-founder of Salient Bio.
Marta is a microbiologist by training with a PhD in microbiology and immunology and previous research experience at Imperial College London.
Today, she's looking at how microbiome could be used not only to understand our health better, but potentially to identify disease earlier.
SalientBio analyzes the communities of microorganisms living in different parts of our bodies, including the gut, mouth, and vagina.
We talk about what those microbes can tell us, why changes in their microbiome can matter far beyond the place where they are found, and how this information could become part of more preventative healthcare.
