Called to be Better | Chris Harper

We started Better Man six years ago.

There are 350,000 churches in North America.

Wow.

80% have a functioning women's ministry.

Less than 10% have a functioning men's ministry.

And when I say functioning, it's anything beyond a quarterly breakfast where an ex-NFL kicker comes and talks about faith and football.

[laughs] If you're super progressive, you bring in a Navy Seal, he talks about faith and freedom.

We've seen it all.

We think there needs to be something more for men.

Amen.

Uh, we have a, a, a saying, you can't become what you can't define.

So, uh, six years ago, we offered a, a very simple biblical theological definition of what it means to be God's man today.

Uh, we call it the four Ws.

Uh, a real man, God's man courageously follows God's word.

We're gonna talk about that this morning.

Uh, a real man loves and protects, uh, God's woman.

Uh, if I'm, if I'm lying next to my wife and I hear someone kick open the front door, I don't nudge her and say, "Babe, go check that out." [laughs] No, there's something instinctive about a man, we're to, we're to love and to serve and to protect, right? Uh, a real man excels at the work God gives him.

The work.

You're, you don't work as if you work unto man, you work as if you work unto God.

Right.

Go.

And I don't care if you're, if, if you're a preacher, listen, we don't believe in the sacred secular divide.

If you're a preacher or a plumber, you're doing a holy work.

That's right.

I remember writing this series and I thought, I thought, "Man, this is gonna be our, our least downloaded series." It became one of our most downloaded series because most men don't know how to excel at their work.
