This all came up to me because I've been talking a lot about success and how to get from A to B.

There's no one thing that gets one person from the hood to the boardroom to stardom, to fame.

In psychology, in our-- when we're talking about mental health and suicide prevention, there's not one thing that's gonna save you.

There's not-- You know, this podcast, as wonderful as it is, and as much as I love you tuning in, this is, this is not the thing, the only thing that could save you.

Uh, your friend, your therapist, there is not one single thing in and of itself, by itself, in isolation that can save you.

But there are a number of factors, a number of things that together over time, at different times, can save you.

In psychology, in clinical psychology, there's a concept called protective factors in mental health.

Relationships, routines, purpose, creative outlets, physical movement, even casual social contact.

But together they form a kind of buffer against crisis, a buffer against suicidality.

And what I'm talking about on a deeper level is timing and unpredictability, right? Like if a friend calls out of the blue, or you have a joke that lands, or a stranger making iconct-- or con- eye contact, or a memory resurfrin- resurfacing at the right moment.

Those are the things that can sustain you, that can buffer you, that can interrupt the ruminations.
