AI Adoption, Insurance Challenges and the Future of Independent Dentistry with Peter Rivoli

To start us off, Dr. Rivoli, can you introduce yourself for our listeners and tell us a little bit about your background?

Yes.

Well, I've been in dentistry for a long time.

My father was a dentist.

He was a general dentist for 12 years and an orthodontist.

I got interested in dentistry when I was about 10 or 12, and I used to go into my father's general dental lab, and he used to cast gold crowns, and I used to have fun casting the metal.

But I then went on into dental school from 82 to 86. and from orthodontic school from 87 to 89.

I graduated in 1989 and then started practicing with my father in the orthodontic practice.

At that point, I got involved with TMJ Ortho.

My father kind of dumped all that stuff on me.

He didn't want to deal with it.

So I actually started training a little bit with Dawson in the beginning and then with Dr.

Mark Piper.

And I continued with Mark Piper from 1990 till about probably about three years ago when Dr. Piper retired.

And, you know, I do joint-based occlusion.

In addition to that, back in 1999, I was turning 39 and got involved with Invisalign because I looked at Invisalign and figured out that it was actually something I would have used as a patient.

So from 89 to 2006, I I actually was on the Invisalign Alpha team.

There was 30 of us doctors, and we actually were brought around by Invisalign to do things, and they used our advice in developing the process.

And I got a little disenchanted in 2006, and in 2006, a good friend of mine, Willis Bumfries, called me up, and I helped him launch ClearPrec in 2006.

And I was working with him up until about 2014.

Willis had retired, and I kept along, and then I kind of moved on.

And around 2014-15, I actually started to develop a dental group myself, and I coalesced my six orthodontic practices with five general dental practices.

we started working with that and, you know, there was a lot of bumps, uh, and we ended up breaking that apart.

I ended up ultimately keeping several of the general dental practices because I had funded the, uh, purchase and, um, the, uh, I went on and then I sort of focused in on, uh, aligners and orthodontics and general dentistry and running general dental and orthodontic practices.

And I now have now got back in with ClearCorrect.
