Tonight on BB & Budgie's Thursday Night Recce, the lads discuss this weekend's Vertex Lubricants International Rally of Whangarei and make their predictions for who will be on the podium come Sunday…
Well, it's going to be pretty damn cool rally, exactly the same roads as last year.
And they certainly got some pretty rave reviews as the event went on.
Day one, very, very fast and flowing, especially those stages that we used twice, stages two and three, four and six and five and seven.
Really exciting.
Nice high speed, good wide roads, heaps of camber, all that stuff.
Very, very exciting.
Day two, a little bit tighter and twistier.
I mean, we talked last week about Ruarangi Road.
sort of the the curry bush of the north island it's probably a little bit nailier and a little bit narrower but just as crusty and um just as much commitment required and just just as many crests um Yeah, we get into some awesome, awesome roads.
And man, what a battle we're going to have at the front of the field, Budgie.
Certainly are.
I mean, we've been talking about sort of a three-horse race for most of the year.
I think Quentin Palmer certainly played himself into that battle with some of the performances.
He was very, very quick.
You serped a couple of the bigger name championship contenders.
And of course, as we talked about it last week on the show with the breaking news, Ben Hunt entered in Cat 1.
So five cars at that real pointy end.
You can imagine any combination of those three ending up on the podium come Sunday night, right?
Absolutely right.
And that's, you know, without factoring in two hard days of competition.
And, you know, let's be honest, all these guys are going to have to be right on the edge because everyone's going to be pushing hard from stage one to make sure that, you know, if you're playing the championship game, if you're Jack Hawkswood or Jack Stokes, you really want to come out of this one.
There's one point between them.
with bonus leg points on the line as well as overall event and power stage, there's a good chance to take six or seven points out of your rival quite comfortably if you can dominate the weekend.
