In this episode, Matt is joined by Jack from Hunter's Pride for a fascinating…
Mm-hmm.
Um, the one downside, and there is a serious downsoid, downside, is [laughs] everyone would've known of, um...
You know, my wife used to get right into me that I was a crap hunter.
I'd go away, and I'd never bring home food.
Like, I wouldn't bring home venison.
She used to call it the most expensive deer meat in the world.
Um, my problem now is my kids expect deer meat.
So now not only if I come home after a hunt with nothing, it's not just her getting into me.
I've now got, like, four of them just into me, "Where's the deer? Where's the deer meat? You didn't shoot one? Oh, man." [laughs] I'll just sit there going, "Now I'm getting ganged up on.
There's an issue here." [laughs]
Yeah.
Yeah, no, it used to be the same.
Like, it's the same for me at the moment.
Um, when I first kind of got into the hunting side of things, the kids were...
Well, look, I only had two at the time.
They were really fresh, and so it was more like go out, they were babies, come back.
It was fine.
Um, and the wife, as I said, she's quite forgiving.
She's-- We lived close to a lot of the properties that I'd hunt on, so it was easy to kind of go out for an afternoon, come back, and if I didn't get anything, that's just how it worked.
That's hunting, isn't it? Uh, but now my eldest is four, and middle child's two, and she's like, "Dad, I want you to shoot a red deer for me." I'm like, "Oh, uh, can I shoot a red deer?" And she's just all over it, which is great, but also in saying that too, [laughs] you're like, "Okay, I've got this expectation that you've got to meet." [laughs] Um, and when you don't come back with anything, the disappointment on their faces.
It's like, "Oh, you didn't get anything.
Dang." [laughs]
It's quite funny.
And, uh, I...
Look, I think I've made my life a little harder because the kids' favorite meat is venison.
