Welcome to Season One of Arkham Northside, a retrospective look at Arkham Horror, the Card Game. Today, we'll be taking Roland Banks through the Night of the Zealot, by himself. Decklists mentioned…
Roland will be our only investigator.
His plan is to fully clear the locations in the Gathering using his ability, then to kill the ghoul priest, and finally, to burn his house down.
In the second scenario, his goal is to kill the masked hunter, and otherwise, to clear all locations of clues.
We don't really care about the other unique cultists, but we might spawn a few to get some extra victory points, depending on how the Gathering goes.
Then in the Devourer below, we'll camp out, wait for Umordoth, and try to inflict 10 points of damage on him.
That's it.
That's the plan.
We want to kill the masked hunter in the Midnight Masks, less for the victory points and more because he is, well, a hunter, and in the Devourer below, we want to stay in the same location.
We don't want to deal with him, especially when other monsters might spawn.
Either way, that basic plan should give us at least six experience from the Gathering, from the locations, the ghoul priest, and the resolution.
Mm, five from the Midnight Masks, and then hopefully one more either from the icy ghoul or flesh eater in the Gathering, or from one of the unique cultists in the Midnight Masks.
That'll get us to about 12.
Ideally, we'll spawn Wolfman Drew or Herman Collins, which both would be easy enough for Roland to deal with.
Either way, those 12 experience Roland gets will go towards killing things better and surviving the encounter deck.
How are we going to do that? Well, we're going monster killing, so we're going to try to get shotguns as soon as we can and extra ammunition, not only for those shotguns, but also for Roland's 38.
I considered the level four I've Had Worse for our showdown with Umordoth, but frankly, the big thing about I've Had Worse is it gives you resources on the other side of things, and Roland probably won't have any way to use those helpfully.
We're going to go with shotguns, extra ammo, and maybe some upgraded beat cops.
Our final build should look like maybe some upgraded beat cops, but at least two shotguns, two extra ammunitions.
That should set us up nicely for a showdown with Umordoth.
