This week on *Movie Chats*, Ant & Ry review Hokum (2026), the supernatural folk horror film from Oddity director Damian McCarthy, starring Adam Scott. When a novelist travels to a remote Irish hotel…
First off, I'll just say that You don't really like him to start off with.
He's not a very likable person.
I know.
He goes to this little town.
His first interaction with somebody, he's walking past them.
Like Hunter, who's killed a goat, and he's just so indifferent.
He's almost condescending.
He's like, why did you do that? Can't you do this? And then he goes into the room where there's an old man telling his kids a story.
He's like, don't talk to strangers.
It's like, who are you anyway? He's like, I'm the owner of the hotel.
He's almost
indifferent.
He's quite entitled.
He's quite arrogant.
Yeah.
He's dismissive.
He's cruel as well.
I mean, when there is the boy who is talking to him about his manuscript and he burns him with a spoon, I mean, it's a trait of assault.
Like, you know, horrible, horrible stuff.
But you know what? I think it's on purpose.
And the fact that they chose Adam Scott, I mean, I think he's great in this movie, but I see Ben Wyatt from
Parks and
Rec.
I can honestly see that...
Yeah, and he's so likable that he makes it okay, I guess.
