Green tree pythons may be one of the most misunderstood snakes in the reptile hobby. In this episode, we take a deep dive into the world of locality lines, designer chondros, imports, pedigree claims…
No entities detected.
Kyan BuchananGuestDillon PerronHostUh, uh, so before, as we set up the episode, like we said, we're gonna be talking about green tree pythons.
B- before I let you kinda take off, Rayn, do you wanna give people just a brief background of your experience with that species?
So I gotta backtrack a little bit.
Um, I, before I knew what a green tree python was, I had this obsession with D'Albert's pythons and, and that, and we're talking '88, '89, '90.
That was the first exotic python that I had ever seen in person, you know, at a very, very young age.
And so the snake also had this lore attached to it, and this is the reason I'm starting there, is because, you know, I, I, I'll never forget it.
You know, I'm, I'm seven years old.
I'm walking into this pet store and they take me in the back, and they've got all these things set up.
Kinda like how, you know, they're, like, every snake had its own cubicle.
But then they've got these two cubicles that are blotched out, or, sorry, that are blacked out with, uh, newspaper.
And so I'm like, "You know, what's in there?" And they start to describe, you know, these two snake, peels it back and I just saw, like, the most beautiful goldish, orangeish...
You know, I'd never seen anything like that.
And it had this jet black head and these just stunning white lips.
And so I'm in awe.
And then this guy just proceeds to start telling me this story of snake sits up in the trees and it only eats birds, and that's why its teeth are so long and, and, you know.
Just this utter fantastical story about a white-lipped python, which is totally uncharacteristic for the species, but I had no clue.
I didn't know anything about what a white-lipped python would be doing or wouldn't be doing at that time.Um, so that's where the green tree python started for me.
I don't- I really didn't have any interest in the green tree python at first.
Um, I, at, at that point in time, was really big into blood pythons, kendia and dеныi.
Like, I was obsessed with white-lipped pythons.
And I remember I think at the end of '92, maybe going into '93, I went to that same pet store, um, this is... that I used to work at, you know, a few years later, and I go in and I've got about 500 bucks in my pocket.
I don't know what I'm gonna buy.
I don't know what they have, what they're not gonna have.
I go in, I didn't even know they had a green tree python.
